Reflections in Practice - Olivia
Welcome to the next member of our Nurturing Lotus community. Some of our members have been part of the community for a number of years, transitioning with me through business name changes and venues. Some, like this months member is relatively new spending most of her engagement with this community through our online classes.
Please meet Olivia, Here are her reflections.
“How old are you now?”
“19”
“How old were you when you first experienced meditation?”
“18”
“Do you have a regular practice?”
“I am trying to engage in a regular practice each week through practicing either journaling, meditation on my own or simply by moving my body but sometimes it is difficult to be consistent.”
“How were you introduced to meditation?”
“I have known about meditation for a few years now, but I wasn’t properly introduced to it until I met Shandy/someone who holds guided meditation sessions.”
“What type of practice works for you?”
“So far, I have found that guided meditations and journaling work the best as they are the easiest for me to stay present and achieve a state of relaxation both mentally and physically.”
“What type of practice doesn’t work for you, and why do you think that is?”
“At this point in time, any type of practice that involves eyes being open is something I struggle with. My mind easily wanders, and I find it difficult to engage properly.”
“Why do you engage in meditation?”
“Meditation allows me to experience a deep relaxation in the mind and body that I don’t get from anything else. It increases my self-awareness in ways that I struggle to do outside of a meditative state and allows me to develop as a person. Overall it brings peace and encourages me to have gratitude for everything in life.”
“How long have you been regularly engaging in some form of meditation practice?”
“About a year now”
“Your best experience with meditation?”
“Is when my mind can slow down and experience being present. I also enjoy discussing my experience with others, becoming aware of symbolism and applying that into everyday life.”
Lastly…..
“Your most challenging experience with meditation?”
“Is when I put too much pressure on myself to experience something, then becoming frustrated that I don’t.”
While Liv is relatively new to meditation practice as a whole she is completely engaged and has benefited from begin in a group that has members with a wide variety of experience. Thank you for sharing space and yourself with us. Enjoy the continuation of your journey, I look forward to sharing it with you.
